Death Brings Life

As this time of the Corona Virus pandemic is forcing all human beings inside their homes, this poem is a creative take on the irony of this situation.

Death Brings Life

The houses were packed
The roads were empty,
The families were bound
By an emotional gravity.

And the trees and plants danced
In the circumference of the fertile ground,
And the swans, dolphins and otters swam
In the eternity of the blue water.

But somewhere far away
The pulse of a sapien would falter,
And his family would sit in dismay,
Later shouting on seeing his corpse in decay.

This decay while brought tears,
This decay but gifted years,
To the nature which has been tortured,
Even though it was us who it nurtured.

Some say nature wants the dominance of humans to end
Others say it wants its death-bringers to perish,
I say it is a warning that nature has sent
To mend our ways, it says, should be the only strife
Because even if nature brings us death, it brings others life.

Using my words to express the feelings of the world...

  1. Great read Lukshita. What you yourself have pointed out seems to be the most apt expression. Indeed somewhere deep down we all feel that the present pandemic is a boomerang of human beings’s own efforts. But weaving it in verse is your unique contribution. Reminds me of modern classic by TS Eliot, The Wasteland…keep writing. Your writing epitomizes the reaction of today’s youth.
